Aromatics - Para Xylene
p-Xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon based on benzene with two methyl substituents with the chemical formula C8H10 or C6H4(CH3)2. The “p” stands for para, identifying the location of the methyl groups as across from one another. It is an isomer of xylene.
Paraxylene (1.4-dimethylbenzene) is a colorless, flammable liquid that has a sweet odor. It is separated from the mixed xylene stream that results from the refining of petroleum. Mostly used in manufacturing of Terephthalic Acid (PTA) and dimethyle esters which are used in polyester manufacturing.
